Shiatsu is a dynamic, hands-on healing therapy that works with the whole person. It uses the power of deep touch, gentle pressure, the breath, stretches and joint rotations to balance the body’s energy system.
Originating in Japan, Shiatsu means “finger pressure”. Much of the theoretical basis is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and the concept of vital energy flow, or Qi, flowing through the body. Shiatsu works with meridians (energy pathways) and acupressure points, to treat patterns of imbalance in the body where energy is stuck or lacking.
Shiatsu supports a sense of general wellbeing; it helps to relieve stress and tension, improving vitality and health and strengthening the body, mind and spirit. It can help in a wide range of conditions – from specific injuries to more general symptoms of poor health.
Shiatsu can be a deeply relaxing experience. It can also be invigorating and help you to feel more present, embodied, confident and connected, thus able to more easily negotiate life.
